It’s that time of the month for Windows 11 users in the stable channel. Microsoft has released the August Patch Tuesday update for the system’s latest version, 22H2. The update, billed as Windows 11 KB5029263, is available now for download and installation through Windows Update.

It includes a number of security fixes, plus some improvements to the operating system, which were previously launched for the KB5028254, a C-release non-security update back in July.

Besides the obvious security patch, here are some of the highlights:

  • Character accuracy: The update improves the recognition and accuracy of Chinese characters in handwriting tools
  • Brightness settings: The update makes brightness settings more accurate, especially on devices with HDR displays.
  • Missing display and audio devices: The update addresses an issue that affects certain display and audio devices that are missing after resuming sleep mode.
  • Unpinned Widgets: The update addresses an issue that causes Widgets to unpin from the taskbar.

In addition to the security fixes and improvements, Microsoft also says that the KB5029263 update has a known issue that affects IT admins who use provisioning packages to configure new devices for use on business or school networks. This issue can cause Windows to only be partially configured, or the Out Of Box Experience to not finish or restart unexpectedly.

“If you can provision the Windows device before upgrading to Windows 11, version 22H2, this will prevent the issue,” says Microsoft.
