Microsoft’s “next version of Windows” is longer Windows 12. The software giant has confirmed that it’ll officially call the update Windows 11 24H2 instead of Windows 12, though it’s likely that the company won’t compromise on new features that were earlier expected to arrive with Windows 12. Either way, a prominent Microsoft journalist has revealed the release date of the Windows 11 24H2 update.
According to journalist Zac Bowden, Microsoft will release the Windows 11 24H2 update to everyone in the September/October timeframe. But you don’t have to wait that long, as Microsoft has the first Insider Preview build of Windows 11 24H2, codenamed Germanium, giving users a glimpse of all the features that will be included in the final release.
Windows 11 24H2 Insider builds are unstable and are never recommended to be installed on main PCs. The Windows 11 24H2 RTM build, which will be much more polished and stable than current Insider builds, is expected to arrive in April. So, maybe you might have to wait at least until the RTM build arrives if you don’t want to run unstable Windows on your PCs.
Interestingly, when it comes to shipping Windows 11 24H2, the devices with ARM CPUs will get the priority. According to Bowden, the next major version of Windows will be shipped to ARM devices first. And that will happen in June. So, if you already have one, you will get a Stable Windows 11 24H2 update on your well-before PCs with Intel chips.
However, before Windows 11 24H2, Microsoft will ship Windows 11 Version 24H1 starting in April and will be available for factory installations starting August of this year. Are you excited about Windows 24H1 and 24H2 updates? Let us know in the comments section.
