The latest version of Windows 10 Mobile, Build 14267, features some improvements to multi-tasking in the OS.

The update brings an increase from 8 to 16 in the number of apps that can remain in RAM before the OS shuts down the apps in the background.

This is of course mainly useful for high RAM devices such as the Lumia 930 and 950 range, but with more Continuum-capable handsets arriving with 2 GB of RAM should mean even more benefit.

Importantly unless the apps have associated background activity this should not result in additional battery drain, though we hope Microsoft have done their home work when it comes to memory allocation and speed of task switching.
