Coming just after the release of the newest WhatsApp version for Windows phones, WhatsApp has just released WhatsApp for Windows 8 and Windows 10 PCs as well.

The app, while not being a UWP due to WhatsApp wanting to reach the widest audiences, is well designed and appears to be based off the WhatsApp Web released earlier last year.

It’s worth noting that it is merely a companion app like Line and Viber’s PC apps. This means that you can only use it with a phone which is already WhatsApp enabled, and it can only be used on one PC at a time. WhatsApp sessions also count in this.

WhatsApp coming to Windows is a big step for the messaging giant. While some may have not minded making use of a web-app, the addition of a desktop app is sure to improve its status.
