WhatsApp has been working on an update to allow users to take a peek at the images directly from the notifications panel. The company has been working hard on the app to make sure they don’t lose market dominance.

The new report comes from WABetaInfo who spotted a new feature called “Notifications Extension” as a part of version 2.18.80. The new feature will be released to iOS first and will make its way to other platforms later. In order to make use of this feature, users will need to turn on picture auto-download settings in WhatsApp. If the user hasn’t turned on picture auto-d0wnload, the app will display a download button in the notification bar.

However, the feature won’t work if the user has multiple notifications from WhatsApp as the WhatsApp notification would have to be swiped down in order to view the image in the notification bar. The feature is still under development and it will be a while before it rolls out to the public.
