WhatsApp is rolling out a new voice message transcription feature for Android users via its latest beta update, version 2.25.14.7, through the Google Play Beta Program.
The update also added a settings area in which users can adjust their voice message transcription settings. All three can be personalized to a certain extent, providing more flexibility and privacy.

Users can now choose between automatic transcription, manual transcription, or disabling the feature altogether. Automatic transcription converts all supported voice messages into text immediately upon receipt, offering a convenient way to read audio messages when listening isn’t possible. Manual transcription allows users to convert messages only when needed, providing more control and reducing unnecessary processing. The third option disables transcriptions entirely for those who prefer the traditional voice message experience.
The feature currently supports English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi, with more languages likely to come in future updates. Notably as well, all transcriptions are done locally on the user’s device, through downloadable language packs that preserve end-to-end encryption .
Though still in beta, some stable WhatsApp users may also receive the update, suggesting a wider testing phase.
It is in line with WhatsApp’s dedication to enhancing access and user agency on all platforms. The feature is expected to be available to other users in the coming weeks.
