WhatsApp is making a change to how it displays messages in the app.

The firm is now adding an indicator to forwarded messages so users can tell which messages were penned by a friend or relative, or if someone else originally wrote the message.

Starting today, WhatsApp will indicate which messages you receive have been forwarded to you. This extra context will help make one-on-one and group chats easier to follow. It also helps you determine if your friend or relative wrote the message they sent or if it originally came from someone else. To see this new forwarded label, you need to have the latest supported version of WhatsApp on your phone.

WhatsApp’s new feature will no doubt stem the spread of fake news in regions where hoaxes inadvertently perpetuated by a trusted friend will now lose the veracity when users can tell the message may have originated elsewhere.
