Windows 93

How many of you have used Windows 95? It was the operating system that started the PC revolution. Recently, The Verge discovered a new website on the web which is titled Windows 93. Windows 93 website mimics the old Windows 95 experiences. Most of the desktop icons can be clicked and the corresponding app will be opened in a window. Seems like it is a huge project involving CSS and Javascript.

Some of what you’ll click is fun, like the fully functional Cat Explorer. Others, like Poney Jockey, claim to open the gates of hell. Which mostly seems like an idle threat, but you never know. To quote a colleague, “This is like the operating system for the Ninth Gate.” This is almost clearly an art project, but it’s so much more. Dive in if you dare. Just don’t ever click Hydra.exe.

Try out Windows 93 here.
