Vanced YouTube Music not working? Fix
If your Vanced YouTube Music stopped logging in, shows Error 400, or just won’t play tracks, use these proven fixes. They cover the full chain from microG and package conflicts to version mismatches and Android battery restrictions. Start at the top and work down for the fastest win.
Before you start
- Confirm Vanced is discontinued and unsupported. Expect breakage with new Google changes.
- Decide if you’ll migrate to an actively maintained alternative like a ReVanced-patched YouTube Music build.
- Back up downloads and playlists because you may clear app data or reinstall components.
- Check you’re not mixing multiple accounts or packages that point to different app IDs.
1) Do a clean uninstall of all legacy bits
Remove old YouTube Vanced, YouTube Music Vanced, Vanced Manager, and any Vanced-branded microG. Reboot. This clears stale signatures and broken account bindings that often cause login loops or invisible updates.
2) Install a maintained stack instead of legacy Vanced
Use an actively maintained patcher build of YouTube Music for your device type: root or non-root. Non-root builds require a compatible microG to enable Google sign-in. Root builds do not. Stick to current, community-supported versions to avoid 400-class errors and missing features.
3) Match versions exactly
Patch against a base YouTube Music version supported by the current patch set. Installing a newer Play Store update on top of an older patch often breaks login, lyrics, casting, or playback. If you updated by mistake, downgrade to the last known-working base, then re-patch.
4) Block Play Store from auto-updating the music app
Auto-updates routinely undo patches. Turn off auto-update for YouTube Music in Play Store. Root users can also detach or hide the package from Play Store visibility. Non-root users should avoid opening the Play Store listing for the patched package.
5) Refresh microG and re-grant permissions
If you’re on non-root: update microG to a version compatible with your patched app. Open microG first, sign in, enable Device registration and Cloud Messaging, and grant Contacts, Phone, and Nearby Devices if requested. Disable battery optimizations for microG so background services don’t get killed.
6) Clear cache and storage for both apps
On Android Settings > Apps, clear cache and storage for YouTube Music and microG. Reopen microG, re-add your account, then open YouTube Music. This resolves most “stuck at sign-in” or “keeps stopping” problems after patch changes.
7) Fix Error 400 and “update required” loops
When you see Error 400 or repeated “update” prompts, you’re likely on an unsupported spoofed version or a mismatched patch. Re-patch with current defaults for your build, avoid experimental spoofing, and use a base APK explicitly confirmed as working by the community.
8) Remove conflicting official packages
If the stock YouTube Music exists as a system app, disable it or uninstall updates so only the patched package is active. Two similar app IDs on the same device can hijack intents, break casting, or confuse login.
9) Turn off aggressive blockers while you test
VPNs, private DNS, DNS-based blockers, or ad-blocking apps can interfere with account handshake, casting, or lyrics. Temporarily disable them and test. If it works, add exceptions for YouTube, Google, and microG endpoints.
10) Relax Android power and network restrictions
Allow unrestricted battery for YouTube Music and microG. Enable background data. On some OEMs, you must lock the app in the recent-apps screen or exclude it from vendor “optimizers” to prevent playback pauses or missing notifications.
11) Reset player data inside the app
In YouTube Music settings, sign out and sign back in. Toggle Audio quality and Download settings, and clear offline downloads. Corrupted local media databases can cause looping or “can’t play this track” errors after big updates.
12) Rebuild from scratch on stubborn devices
If problems persist, fully uninstall the patched app and microG, reboot, then install microG first, sign in, and only then install the freshly patched YouTube Music. This “pipeline reset” fixes invisible permission prompts and stale OAuth states.
13) Consider a different app if you only need playback
If you don’t need Google account sync, lightweight privacy players that scrape YouTube may work without microG. They typically don’t support full sign-in or library sync, but they avoid many login-related failures seen on patched builds.
Tips
- Test on Wi-Fi and mobile data to rule out carrier DPI or firewall rules.
- Keep one Google account on the device while testing to reduce account-chooser confusion.
- If casting fails, reboot Chromecast or speaker and ensure both apps are on the same network and same account.
- Expect periodic breakage when Google changes APIs. The fix is usually to update patches and the base app together.
FAQs
Is Vanced dead or will it come back?
Vanced was discontinued and no longer receives official updates. Breakage over time is expected as Google changes YouTube and account APIs.
Why does non-root require microG?
Because the patched app is signed differently from Google’s original and cannot use Play Services directly. microG provides the sign-in and push frameworks non-root builds rely on.
I only get Error 400 on one account.
That account may have a bad state with the app version you’re spoofing. Clear data, update microG and the patched app to current versions, and try again. Some users report success after de-spoofing or switching to a supported base.
Will this keep breaking?
Possibly. When YouTube Music updates its APIs, you’ll need to update both the base APK and the patches. Avoid Play Store auto-updates and stick to versions the community confirms as working.
Summary
- Uninstall all legacy Vanced components and reboot.
- Move to a maintained YouTube Music patched build and update microG if non-root.
- Patch against a supported base version and block Play Store auto-updates.
- Clear cache and storage for YouTube Music and microG, then sign in via microG.
- Disable VPN/ad-blockers, relax battery restrictions, and remove conflicting official packages.
- For Error 400 or update loops, re-patch with current defaults or use a confirmed-working base version.
- Rebuild the install order if issues persist, or switch to a simpler player if you don’t need sign-in.
