Toripon, an adorable little indie game from Victoria Smith, is all about making people happy on the internet by taking photos of cute birds.
For too long have four-legged mammals such as cats and dogs been the focus of adorable animals on the internet. It’s time for birds to shine in all their pixelated glory.
The announcement trailer for the game is already cute enough, with happy little pixelated birds riding on a roomba, rolling around in toilet paper tubes, triumphantly playing with a red drinking cup, running around with knives, and splashing in the sink.
The game is set in your own ‘surprisingly spacious’ inner-city apartment. It’s up to you to take photos of your (considerable amount of) pet birds, share them with your internet friends, and spread the bird love.
You can unlock new birds by taking ‘the right’ pictures, meaning your apartment can soon be filled to the brim with all manner of cute and talented birds.
Toripon also includes over 50 types of birds to discover, no-pressure gameplay, that aforementioned apartment to explore, in-game social media, customisable controls, and accessibility options. There’s also Japanese language support.
While Toripon is still in development, you can follow its progress on itch.io here.
Side note: Please don’t give knives to your parakeets in real life. They’re powerful enough as they are.
