Today, Tim Willits, studio director at id Software, officially announced his departure from the company after 24 years of service.

Willits broke the news by posting on Twitter.

“After 24 years, I’ve decided to leave id Software after QuakeCon. I’ve been extremely lucky to work with the best people in the industry on truly amazing games.” Willits said. “QuakeCon has been an unbelievable part of my journey and I look forward to seeing everyone at the Gaylord Texan.”

He continued his statement in another tweet, reassuring fans by saying “All of the games currently in development are in very good hands, my departure will not affect any planned releases.”

“id Software is packed full of amazing talent that will continue to develop (long into the future) some of the best shooters in the world.”

In a final tweet, he said “After QuakeCon I will announce my future plans, where I am going, and what new exciting things I am doing. Stay tuned.”

Willits joined id Software back in 1995, after impressing the owners and development team with Doom levels he had created in his own spare time. Since then, he’s worked on games such as Quake (1996), Doom 3 (2004), Rage (2011), and Rage 2 (2019).

We wish Tim the best of luck on his new adventures. You can keep up to date on what he’s doing by following his Twitter, @TimWillits.
