Google is stepping up to support the U.S. workforce by investing in energy and AI training. As artificial intelligence continues to drive innovation and economic growth, the U.S. must also upgrade its energy systems.

This means upgrading old infrastructure, creating new transmission lines, and training workers to match increased demands.

Google is investing in a large training initiative to help fill the skills gap.

The company is collaborating with the electrical training ALLIANCE etA, a consortium of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association.

They plan to jointly train 100,000 electrical workers and add 30,000 new apprentices in the next five years.

The program will also introduce AI tools into the curriculum. Apprentices will gain access to Google’s AI Essentials course, helping them build critical tech skills. With this initiative, etA aims to grow the electrical workforce pipeline by 70%.

This support builds on Google’s broader efforts to prepare Americans for the AI era. While one program alone won’t solve the labor shortage, it shows the potential of public-private partnerships. With shared action, the U.S. can develop a stronger, smarter workforce ready to power the future of energy and technology.
