Google is expanding its digital ID capabilities in the U.K. and U.S., offering residents a secure and convenient way to store and use their identification in Google Wallet.
Starting soon, U.K. residents will be able to create digital ID passes using their passports, enabling easier verification for services such as Railcard eligibility on the Rail Delivery Group platform. Google is also exploring collaboration with the U.K.’s Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology to allow digital IDs for use in areas like alcohol purchases.

In the U.S., digital ID capabilities are expanding to residents of Arkansas, Montana, Puerto Rico, and West Virginia, with users in Arizona, Georgia, Maryland, and New Mexico able to use their mobile IDs at DMVs.
Additionally, with the upcoming REAL ID deadline in May 2025, U.S. residents can use passport-based ID passes for TSA security at domestic airports.
Google is also integrating Zero Knowledge Proof (ZKP) technology into Wallet for private and fast age verification, aiming to protect user privacy. Partnerships with services like Bumble will use digital IDs for user identity verification. Google Wallet is also expanding to 50 more countries, making digital ID passes accessible globally.
