A few weeks ago, Huawei’s P20 Pro emerged with a 40 MP camera set up. We (From our armchairs), compared it to the venerable Nokia Lumia 1020 of 2013, the first modern smartphone with a 41 MP camera (actually not counting the Nokia 808.)

The folks over at Neowin went a step further and did an actual live comparison with both the Lumia 1020 and the Huawei P20 Pro, and the results were as you’d expect.

While the Lumia 1020 held its own better than you’d expect, especially for a smartphone with  AI, triple camera lens and other bells and whistles one would expect in a 2018 model flagship phone.

Here are some samples from their review, you can see the whole thing from the source link at the bottom.  Lumia 1020 photos precede their P20 Pro counterparts in the gallery below.

Neowin’s Rich Woods concluded:

The Nokia Lumia 1020 was well ahead of its time, perhaps too much so. For years, fans have asked for a successor to this legendary device, a handset with a 40-megapixel camera, but with modern technologies like a fast processor, phase detect autofocus, and more. That successor is here from Huawei, and with the completion of this article, I can finally put my Nokia Lumia 1020 to rest.

Microsoft was once rumoured to be making a successor to the Lumia 1020, but with Huawei’s P20 Pro and other capable handsets out in the world, one wonders if there is even a need at this point.
