Recently, Microsoft’s Terry Myerson stated that the company won’t be focusing much on Windows Phone this year. Now, Terry recently sent an email to Microsoft executives and partners, stating that the company will continue to focus on Windows 10 Mobile. According to Terry, the company is “committed” to Windows 10 Mobile, and they intend to support Windows 10 Mobile for “many years”. He also revealed that the company is currently working on the next generation of productions, possibly the upcoming Surface Phone — which is apparently coming by April 2017.
According to Windows Central, Microsoft will be launching the Surface Phone next year alongside Redstone 2 by April 2017. Redstone 2 should include some exciting new features, but there aren’t a lot of info on that update for Windows 10 just yet. Additionally, the report claims that Microsoft is also planning a Redstone 3 update for Windows 10. Interestingly enough, both Redstone 2 and 3 will be focused on “innovation around mobile phones,” which is a bit doubtful, to say the least. Microsoft is still working on Redstone 1, and the company just about started to plan features for Redstone 2 — so plans may and will change for Redstone 3, and we will probably know more about that update somewhere around 2017 or later this year.
As for the Surface Phone, it will apparently be the “most secure phone” in the world, as well as the “best phone for productivity”. The report states that Microsoft isn’t quite proud of the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which is understandable, but hopefully the Surface Phone will bring some hope back. Hopefully, that is.
