Strategy Analytics: Microsoft outsold Blackberry in Q4 2012 in USA

Strategy Analytics has confirmed what Kantar has been saying for a while – that Windows Phone has been outperforming Blackberry in the US.

The information was delivered as part of a tease for a more detailed and expensive report, and only mentions that it is the first time since 2006 that Windows Phone has exceeded Blackberry’s share.

The short post says:

Microsoft Windows Phone overtook BlackBerry OS to become the third largest smartphone platform in the influential United States market during Q4 2012. It was the first time Microsoft has surpassed Blackberry since 2006. Meanwhile, Android lost share in annual terms for the first time ever. Are we now at “peak Android”? Which hardware vendors dominate the Microsoft and Android smartphone ecosystems today?

For a little bit more info we turn to Kantar, which said in Q4 2012 Windows Phone had 2.6% market share in US, while Blackberry had 1.1%.

We will have to see if US retains enough loyalty to Blackberry to restore the previous status quo, or of Blackberry has now finally rotten on the vine.
