Microsoft first demoed the new Story Remix experience during the Build developer conference earlier this year. Since then they have released some of the Story Remix experience to Windows 10 Insiders. Last month we reported that the ability to add 3D effects to videos is now available to Windows Insiders in the Skip Ahead Ring. Microsoft later confirmed that this 3D effects experience will be released to general consumers as part of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update which is releasing later this month.

Now the bad news is that Microsoft is going to limit 3D effects, music and text styles to Office 365 subscribers. Everyone can try out these effects, but they can export it to videos only when they have an Office 365 subscription. As of July 2017, there are only 27.0 million Office 365 consumer subscribers. As a result, over 300 million Windows 10 users will never have the full Story Remix experience! Now I really hope Microsoft doesn’t bring back something like Windows Ultimate Extras which they released for Windows Vista users.

Update:

It looks like Microsoft will have a set of free 3D effects for everyone, but to enjoy all the 3D effects, consumers should buy an Office 365 Subscription.
