At BUILD 2014 Stephen Elop has just announced a new feature in their new Windows Phones called SensorCore.

The feature will allow users to track their fitness and activity using the Bing Health, and will be able to track steps, calories burn and distance walked even when the phone is off.sensorcore sdk

The feature will be supported by a SDK which should allow developers to create 3rd party apps to also track the same parameters.

The feature should be available to all new Lumia handsets.
