It’s been an open secret that Samsung will soon announce its tri-fold smartphone, a competitor to Huawei’s Mate XT. But now, we’re getting some details about how the phone will be called.
According to a reliable leaker from South Korea, the tech giant will reportedly name its tri-fold foldable device the Galaxy G Fold. It’s also expected to have a 9.96-inch width and 6.54-inch height and weights more than both the Galaxy S25 Ultra and iPhone 16 Pro Max at 298 gram.
Samsung’s heavier-than-Mate-XT Galaxy G Fold, or whatever the tri-fold will be called, is expected to launch in early 2026 rather than this year, according to the South Korean blog. Mate XT was a big success for Huawei because, besides being the first of its kind, the phone also recorded over 3 million pre-orders just before its launch.
Previous rumors (in Korean) were saying that Samsung would launch the smartphone in the second half of 2025 and its production will be limited to just 300,000 units due to the complexity of manufacturing. But, that may change.
The Galaxy G Fold will fold inwards from both sides and may feature a smaller cover display. Folks over at PhoneArena also expects the pricing to range between $2,500 and $3,000, placing it in the premium category, similar to Huawei’s tri-fold device.
Some months ago, we also spotted a patent document from Samsung that hints at a tri-fold smartphone with durability.
In our discovery, Samsung said that the device would use specialized layers for foldability, reduce screen stains (which was the problem), and prevent damage from foreign substances.
