Slack is rolling out a pretty neat feature today. The company now lets users set custom statuses on its service, which means it’s now a let user to let your teammates know when you are away for a certain reason. For instance, if you are at the dentist and away from work, you can set a custom status that says “at the dentist” with any emoji you want, too:
Now you can set a custom status in Slack to share what you’re up to, when you’ll be back, whom to contact in your place, or anything else that helps your team know when they can expect to hear from you. Pick from five default options for common scenarios when you’re away — like being out sick or working remotely. For anything else, create your own, more specific status that says exactly what you want your team to know. Each status can be up to 100 characters and illustrated with an emoji of your choice.
Settings a custom status on Slack is pretty easy — all you need to do is hover over your name on the upper left corner on the Slack app, and click on Set Status. From there, you can choose from any of the 5 preset statuses or use a custom one.
Slack is currently rolling out the update to all users around the world. If you are using the Windows app for Slack, you won’t be required to actually update the app as it’s a web-wrapper app. Nevertheless, you can get Slack for Windows 10 below.
