Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is going to be receiving a manga spin-off prequel next month.

Titled Sekiro Gaiden: Shinazu Hanbei, the story will follow the life of Hanbei the Undying. For the unaware, Hanbei is your training partner in From Software’s hack-and-slash game. He’ll give you combat tips and also take a lot of hits as he trains you into a great warrior.

Just like Dark Souls and Bloodborne before it, Sekiro doesn’t focus on directly conveying its narrative to the player. Although, it is better than its predecessors in that regard. However, there is a lot more story to be told in Sekiro’s universe and this upcoming manga will at least fill in the backstory of an interesting character.

If you like seeing gushes of the red stuff, you’ll probably love this. Ouch!

Sekiro Gaiden: Shinazu Hanbei will launch May 27th on the Comic Walker website.
