While Microsoft is not working on its own self-driving car, it does see a role for itself in providing something for the driver to do once they get demoted to being simply passengers in their vehicles, and their solution is of course work.

Volvo recently agreed to add Skype for Business in some of their models of their cars, and in the video above we can see their vision of a Microsoft-provided productivity solution powered by Cortana.

Microsoft envisions Cortana acting as a comprehensive digital assistant, telling you when to leave for work, what you will be doing, scheduling your appointments, routing your car and even keeping you company on your drive.

It remains to be seen to what level car makers will allow Microsoft to take over their interface, but it does seem relatively glorious, as long as you don’t need any apps of course.
