We have already heard that the Samsung Galaxy S11+ will have a new 108-megapixel camera. High pixel counts do not often translate into great pictures, however, due to the tiny size of the sensors, meaning little light is captured by each cell and therefore noise is high and low-light sensitivity is not great.

Serial Samsung leaker Ice Universe has however revealed how Samsung will solve this problem and deliver great pictures, even in low light.

In his cryptic tweet he says;

For mere mortals this translate into each cell on the CCD camera sensor will be bonded to 8 others, with 9 pixels being combined into one very large 2.4-micrometre cell size, resulting in a 12-megapixel camera with superior light sensitivity and great noise suppression.

This is a strategy commonly used by high megapixel cameras, but few have as many cells as the 108-megapixel sensor on the Samsung Galaxy S11+ has.

Besides that software trick, the  S11+ is also believed to be using a very large 1/1.3-inch exclusive custom sensor, which will be different from the ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor in terms of quality but will be similar in size. 108MP Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX is a camera sensor that you can find on the latest Mi Note 10 and Mi MIX Alpha.

Needless to say, the new custom sensor that the Samsung Galaxy S11+ is going to use will be superior to the existing HMX sensor, which means the image quality will also be better than what ISOCELL Bright HMX sensor produces. It will also be capable of recording super-high-resolution videos.

The camera module in S11+ is also going to be different from the other two models, S11 and S11e. Galaxy S11+ is going to have a “very big” camera module, which will make up for “very strong” camera performance.

The device is expected to be announced on the 18th February in San Francisco next year. Hopefully, the device will live up to all the promises, but given Samsung’s leaky history we should know well before the launch date.
