If Bethesda announcing Rage 2 this year wasn’t enough of a surprise, it appears that another dormant franchise is coming back. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was just revealed (re-revealed?) out of the blue today with a planned release for 2021.

Sergiy Grygorovych, CEO of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developer GSC Game World, confirmed the game’s existence on his Facebook page and the studio’s official website. Epic Games Director of Publishing Strategy Sergey Galyonkin also seems to have known about the game’s development and sent out a tweet leading to a website simply titled stalker2.com. All that is shown on the site so far is the Stalker name and a date of “2.0.2.1.” stylized like the series’ name. Galyonkin implied that the game may be using Epic’s Unreal Engine.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was first announced around eight years ago in 2010 with a scheduled release in 2012. Unfortunately, those plans didn’t pan out and the survival horror series has effectively been on ice since then. The first few games center around the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukraine.

The franchise has usually released only on PC, but it is unknown if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be making its way to consoles.
