Fast charging might be the single best invention after the internet and it has served its purpose well. With the ever-improving technology, companies have managed to bring down the charging time to less than 30 minutes while increasing the battery capacity at the same time. However, it looks like Qualcomm is still not satisfied with the numbers and want to push it even further.

According to a new report, Qualcomm plans to upgrade Quick Charge 4.0 next year which will be able to deliver a whopping 32W power output. To put things into perspective, Quick Charge 4.0 supports 18W power output. While 32W is a massive number and will give a huge boost, there’s always a heating issue. Qualcomm has been tackling the heating issue by using something called as “Dual Charge” which lets the power flow through two paths ensuring faster speeds while keeping the heat in check. However, this will not work as 32W is almost the double of 18W so Qualcomm plans to add “Triple Charge” which will allow power to flow through three paths and keep the device heat in check.

The upcoming Quick Charge might be called Quick Charge 5.0 and will be revealed alongside Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150/855 next year. It will be interesting to see if OEMs will adopt Quick Charge 5.0 considering only a handful adopted Quick Charge 4.0.
