Racing game developer Slightly Mad Studios has decided to branch out into the console manufacturing industry with their upcoming Mad Box console.

Slightly Mad CEO Ian Bell started off the morning a cryptic tweet saying, “The Mad Box is coming.”

Bell explained that the console will dethrone the Xbox One X as the most “powerful console ever built”. With the aim of supporting 4K, 60fps-per-eye VR and the support for a wide array of PC peripherals.

The CEO then told Variety that The Mad Box will be comparable to “a very fast PC 2 years from now.”

At the moment, The Mad Box is quite a ways off from release. Slightly Mad is currently talking with manufacturers of the device’s internal components. “We can’t say much more right now other than we have the designs specced out in detail.”

Bell does seem confident with the upcoming system’s potential. It will be priced at a competitive price to that of its contemporaries, but Slightly Mad isn’t looking to take that big of a cut from its sales. Instead, much like most consoles, it will be about games.

With numerous investors allegedly already on board, The Mad Box may end up being a household name in the next few years. It would certainly be a welcome surprise.
