PowerToys v0.76.0 is a new release of the PowerToys utility pack for Windows. It includes several new features, fixes, and some visual upgrades.
What is PowerToys?
PowerToys is a collection of free, open-source utilities developed by Microsoft that enhance the Windows experience, especially for power users. It adds features, tweaks settings, and offers various tools to customize your workflow and squeeze more productivity out of your system.
Think of it as a Swiss Army Knife for your Windows PC.
One of the biggest changes is that PowerToys now runs on .NET 8. This means that it should feel smoother and faster than ever before. Here is the previous version of it.
File Explorer received two new add-ons: the QOI Preview Handler and the Thumbnail Provider. These add-ons allow you to preview QOI images and see thumbnails for more file types.
The UI for several PowerToys tools has also been modernized to bring them up to speed with the look and feel of Windows 11. This includes the Keyboard Manager Editor, PowerToys Run, Quick Accent, and Text Extractor.
In addition to the more noticeable changes, several PowerToys tools have received smaller updates, like the Keyboard Manager, which now allows you to map text sequences to keys and shortcuts. And there have been fixes for issues that affected FancyZones and the File Explorer add-ons.
Overall, PowerToys v0.76.0 is a significant update that brings several new features, fixes, and visual improvements to the utility pack.
