Sony has revealed that the next-generation PlayStation 5 will be vastly more power efficient than this gen’s PS4.

Revealed through a post on the PlayStation Blog, the upcoming next-gen console is promising to consume less power during suspended games.

Revealed by Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Jim Ryan, the new PS5 is aiming to be an eco-friendly machine. With the company joining forces with the United Nations to Combat Climate Change, PlayStation is aiming to be a more environmental console.

“I am also very pleased to announce the next generation PlayStation console will include the possibility to suspend gameplay with much lower power consumption than PS4 (which we estimate can be achieved at around 0.5 W),” Ryan announced.

“If just one million users enable this feature, it would save equivalent to the average electricity use of 1,000 US homes.”

In the blog post, Jim Ryan stated that the gaming company will begin looking into PSVR applications that can help raise awareness of climate change.

With Sony beginning to add more care for the environment, what will Microsoft’s answer be?? With Project Scarlett being a powerful console, will it also be power efficient?
