In a new interview with Daily Star Online, Forza Horizon 3 Creative Director Ralph Fulton revealed that the studio’s next project is being developed with the Xbox One X as its lead platform (via IGN). While Playground is known as the developer of the Forza Horizon series, and is likely working on Forza Horizon 4 at the moment, it is also developing another open-world RPG that is rumored to be Fable 4 according to recent reports.
Regarding the studio’s next project, Fulton said, “Ease of development in the Xbox One X’s make up provides a really great development platform, not just for that console but also the whole family of devices and even PC.”
He continued by stating that it is incredibly easy to develop for the Xbox One X, and that all versions of the game on the entire Xbox One family of consoles will see improvements as a result.
“As we work on our current project, which is currently undisclosed but is also occupying our studio at the moment, we’re creating it with the Xbox One X as the lead platform.
“We’re doing this, not just because it’s new and incredibly powerful, but also as I’ve mentioned before, it’s really easy to develop on and it’s got fantastic test tools on the ChuckWalla [devkit] itself.
“What that means is that it’s not just about the Xbox One X version, but all versions in the Xbox One family improve as a result of that focus.
“[Xbox consoles] have always been good consoles to work on, going back to the Xbox 360 generation as well, but in terms of the power the Xbox One X has on your desk, it’s a fantastic bit of kit for developers. And that’s great for games and gamers.”
Unfortunately there’s no way of knowing whether Fulton was referring to the next Forza Horizon game or the rumored Fable project. Seeing as the next Fable is supposedly still in early development, there’s a good chance his comments were directed towards the Forza Horizon series. Still, it’s possible that both projects are being worked on with the Xbox One X in mind.
