Oppo recently showed off what looked like a production-ready concept of an expandable smartphone, the Oppo X 2021.
The Oppo X 2021 concept is a 6.7 inch smartphone which can expand to 7.4 inches with a roll-up flexible OLED screen that is wrapped around the inner shell of the device on a “warp track” with provides structural support while the device is expanded.
TechtalkTV has created a video of the device showing it in action, and it appears to present a very compelling alternative to folding smartphones.
They note several compelling advantages over foldables including thinner devices, no crease, variable width, lower component count (no external screen or extra cameras) and more.
Oppo says they hope to bring the device to market “at the right time” (possible 2022).
