It takes a brave company to enter a new device segment, and it seems Oppo simply does not have the cojones.

The company showed off a variety of devices at MWC 2019, but in the end, not anything as groundbreaking as a folding phone.  It turns out however that they company had a device nearly identical to the very well received Huawei Mate X in their labs but did not feel ready to announce it, with CEO Brian Shen saying they were planning to announce it, but eventually cancelled, saying  “it wouldn’t have been meaningful” to show it off there.

Shen insisted the company created the device in-house but did not feel the form factor added much value, except to expand the screen when unfolded.

He still however teased that if there are enough retweets to his Weibo post he may actually bring it to production.

If you think its worth convincing Shen see his Weibo post here.
