Dark Mode support is now de rigueur for any app, and Opera is the latest to add support to their browser.

Opera 61 is currently in the developer channel with support for Windows 10 dark mode, with UI elements responding to your Windows 10 theme settings.

The browser already had a dark theme (since opera 59) but previously did not respond to your OS settings. The new support appears to be inherited from Chromium 74, which added similar support.

To test the feature:

  1. Download and install latest Opera developer on your computer
  2. On Windows 10, launch Settings > Personalization > Colors
  3. Choose ‘Dark ‘ under default App mode to see Opera speed dial changing to dark in real-time (check the gif posted above).

The change in theme is apparent in the Opera menu, News, History, bookmarks manager, easy setup, extensions, downloads,  Settings and Update pages.

Opera 60 is expected to be released this month, and Opera 61 some months later.
