Sam Altman recently took to social media to announce major improvements to the ChatGPT platform to improve user experience and to better serve demand. In a post on X, the OpenAI CEO revealed that the company has doubled the hourly rate limits for GPT-4o and GPT-4-mini-high models for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This is in response to ongoing user requests for more flexibility, especially among power users for whom the platform is heavily integrated into work and research.

Alongside these changes, OpenAI confirmed that the legacy GPT-4 model will be officially retired from ChatGPT on April 30, 2025. As part of this transition, GPT-4o will now serve as the default model for all users, consolidating the platform under its newest and most advanced architecture.

To support increased usage and maintain performance, OpenAI is rapidly scaling its infrastructure, adding “tens of thousands” of GPUs to its system. This investment underscores the company’s commitment to staying ahead of demand while delivering faster, smarter, and more reliable AI capabilities.

These iterations indicate OpenAI’s commitment to improving even further its services and establishing GPT-4o as the platform upon which it will build the future of its AI tools. Users are invited to start experimenting with the new features right away.
