NextWeb.com reports that Microsoft appears to have crossed the 6000 device point for Windows Phone 7 devices out in the wild, according to their Facebook application page, which provides a rough count.
Developer demand for devices remain very high, but Microsoft is providing developers access to devices in key locations around the country and world for applications that need to be tested on real devices and not just the emulator.
If each device only results in one launch application the Windows Phone 7 marketplace will feature more than 5 times as many applications as the Windows Mobile marketplace, which only recently crossed 1000 applications.
Momentum is expected to continue with Microsoft promising to roll out devices to many of its 90,000 employees.
