Nokia outsells iPhone in Italy says the IDC

The IDC has been releasing early data for their Q2 2013 report for the Western European market to the Wall Street Journal, and the information allows us to add another major country to the list where Windows Phones are outselling the iPhone.
According to the IDC in Italy Nokia saw a 17% YoY increase in smartphone sales, and ranked as the number two smartphone vendor behind Samsung, and of course therefore ahead of the Apple iPhone.
The IDC also revealed Nokia sells 40% of its Lumias to UK, where it shipped 396,000 Windows Phones, for a more than 100% increase in shipments in that market. Unfortunately this still did not push Nokia into the top 5 there, but I am sure it is only a matter of time.
In total Nokia shipped 1.8 million Windows Phones to Western Europe in Q2, up from 1.6 million in Q1 2013, but down from 2 million in Q2 2012, when Nokia was still selling a large number of Symbian handsets. Nokia ranked as the 5th overall largest smartphone vendor in Western Europe.
As Lumia volumes ramp up it is clear however that Nokia is slowly winning back market share, which is not just good news for the company, but also Windows Phone in general.
