Today Nokia launched a new program called “Invent With Nokia” that invites external inventors to help Nokia’s future growth. In simple terms, If your idea is turned into a patent, then Nokia will pay you for it! From Nokia’s blog,
“Having a great idea is one thing, but having that idea turned into a reality is often much more difficult, costly and time consuming and so ideas rarely come to fruition. What if you had a great idea for a future device, or a radical new feature or service? Nokia has today launched a new program that allows you to submit your ideas. Invent With Nokia is now open for ideas.If you have a genuinely useful and innovative idea that could be turned into a product or service by Nokia – whether or not you are a full time inventor – imagine the feeling of having your vision realised by a company such as Nokia that can make it happen. To submit your idea you’ll need to register over at the site and provide us with non-confidential information about your idea or invention.
If your idea is accepted and a patent filed as a result, the financial rewards mean it should definitely be worth giving it a go and there could be further rewards if a product or service based on the invention is successful with consumers. In addition to the monetary rewards, you’ll also take your place in a hall of fame, giving you public recognition for your invention so everybody will know who you are.
While Nokia already has thousands of its own people thinking of new innovative ideas, by opening this initiative up to anyone across the globe means we should see some exciting new concepts. If you’ve got a practical idea, sign up at Invent With Nokia. We look forward to seeing some of these ideas become reality. Just don’t tell us what they are here, yet! “
Steps invloved in the system,
  1. You register to Invent With Nokia;
  2. You submit your invention to Nokia and agree not to disclose it to anyone else for four months;
  3. If we don’t want to pursue your invention we’ll tell you. You will then continue to have the same rights to your invention you did before you submitted it to Invent With Nokia.
  1. If Nokia notifies you within four months that it is interested in your invention, Nokia will have the right to apply for a patent based on your invention.  In return, you will be eligible for a financial reward.  Nokia’s business is very diverse, and the inventions we review are similarly broad.  Whilst we take a common approach to valuing and rewarding our partners, there will be some variability.  In principle you will be eligible for an award if we apply for a patent based on your invention.  You may be eligible for a further award depending on the success of the product and the level of award you choose at the patent application stage.

Very innovative idea from Nokia indeed.
