At the launch of their new Symbian handsets in Hong Kong Nokia made a point of proclaiming their commitment to Near Field Communication technology, a feature of all three of their new Symbian handsets.
Ilari Nurmi, a vice-president of Nokia, said the company was moving aggressively to promote the NFC system.
"From now on, all of our products will have an NFC chip inside. All other NFC-equipped devices can also link to our products," he said.
Mark Selby, the vice-president for multimedia, said the company plans to embed the technology in its Windows Phone 7 handsets also.
NFC technology will enable the three new Nokia smartphones to pair with other NFC-enabled mobile accessories including speakers, Bluetooth headphones and headsets simply by tapping them together.
Nokia recently showed of its Essence Bluetooth headset which included an NFC receiver and can pare with an NFC-enabled handset simply to touching the two.
