No Windows Mobile 7 announcement at PDC in November

There has been some speculation that Microsoft will be announcing Windows Mobile 7 details to developers at their Professional Developer Conference in mid-November.

Wishing to avoid the Osborne effect, Microsoft laid this rumour firmly to rest:

In an e-mail to Mary Jo Foley a Microsoft spokesman said:

“As I’m sure you know, Microsoft and its partners are squarely focused on introducing the Windows phone brand through the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 in October [October 6], which includes working closely with ISVs and developers to add even greater value to the Windows Mobile platform and new business opportunities for its mobile channel ecosystem. To properly set your expectations, wanted to let you know that Microsoft is not planning any sessions for PDC that look past the Windows Mobile OS in market at that time.”

While this is not confirmation that Windows Mobile 7 will not be released to OEM’s this year, an early release to developers would have been more encouraging, versus seeing the new OS constantly receding into the distance.
