When we wrote about the new Twitter Progressive Web App coming to Windows 10 and Windows Phone, with reduced functionality due to its lack of Service Worker support, we predicted the only way to restore the app to full functionality would be to drop support for Windows 10 Mobile.

Unsurprisingly, this is exactly what will happen, with Twitter writing in a blog post that they will be sunsetting their app for Windows Phones on the 1st June, with no replacement or alternative being offered.

Older versions of Windows 10 (pre-Fall Creators Update) will also not be supported, with may be an issue for enterprise users.

This new app has been optimized for the Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

We encourage everyone to update the Windows app as soon as you update your OS as previous versions will no longer be available for download starting today and no longer supported starting June 1st.  If you’re running Windows 8.1 or below, you can access the latest update by updating to Windows 10 or through twitter.com in your browser to continue enjoying the full Twitter experience.

Fortunately, there are, of course, multiple alternate twitter apps for Windows Phone, but without an officially supported app by one of the largest social networks in the world, this is another sign that it may be well past the time that the remaining Windows Phone users move to a better-supported platform.
