Microsoft invites Xbox insiders to take the new YouTube app on Xbox out for a spin, and it looks pretty promising – just like the new Home screen.
“This update includes video improvements for the app and we are interested in getting your feedback. See what the world is watching — from the hottest music videos to what’s popular in gaming, fitness, movies, shows, news, learning and more,” the announcement reads.
Microsoft further says this new app is only available for those with Xbox Series X/S consoles, and it means that gamers with Xbox One will probably not see any kind of improvement in their in-console YouTube apps.
To participate in the YouTube app update preview on your Xbox Series X|S console, you can sign in to the Xbox Insider Hub app. If you don’t have the app installed, you can download it from the Store. Once inside the app, go to the “Previews” section and find “YouTube.” Select “Join” to become part of the preview program. After completing the registration process, you will be directed to the Store to install the updated YouTube app.
However, does this mean that Microsoft will abandon Xbox One any time soon? It’s still too soon to say. While there has been a slight decline in hardware sales on Xbox consoles in the last quarter, it’s important to note that many games are now optimized for next-gen consoles. The lifespan of the Xbox One may be limited.
What are your thoughts on the new YouTube app on Xbox? Have you downloaded the preview? Let us know in the comments!
