Being able to set a static IP on your WIFI network is a feature which can be enabled on a device by device basis by OEMs in Windows Phone 8.

Nokia/Microsoft Mobile has been very hit and miss about this, with some handsets supporting it and others not.

Now a new firmware update rolling out to Windows Phone 8.1 handsets on Lumia Cyan (including on Developer Preview) has delivered this new feature.

Static IPs are important for some users, who use the feature as a security measure.

Our tipster has had the update come to a Nokia Lumia 625, but we have heard the Nokia Lumia 925 and 525 are also being served.

Have any of our readers received the new feature, and do you use it? Let us know below.

Thanks Danish for the tip.
