June 6, 2025 – WhatsApp released beta version 25.17.10.80 through TestFlight on iOS, granting selected users a new option to reshare or forward any status update. So far, WhatsApp only allowed resharing when a user was mentioned in a status. This update removes that restriction for people who see the feature.

When a tester composes a status, a tooltip now asks whether they want to allow resharing. They can toggle the setting for each update, and change it later via status privacy options . Once someone reshares a status, the original author receives a notification—but the viewer sees only the resharing contact’s name, not the originator’s. WhatsApp handles each reshare as a separate action, notifying the most recent sharer rather than tracing back to the original poster .

This update aligns iOS with Android beta 2.25.18.9, which added the same capability . WhatsApp now offers consistent functionality across platforms. The feature targets people sharing public announcements or community messages who want control over their post visibility. By enabling resharing, users can widen their reach beyond direct contacts.

At present, only a subset of TestFlight testers can access the toggle. WhatsApp plans a gradual rollout over several weeks before it becomes broadly available. The company continues to refine options that let users manage how their status updates spread beyond their contact list.

In summary, iOS beta 25.17.10.80 puts resharing control directly in users’ hands, confirming WhatsApp’s efforts to give creators more flexibility over how their content circulates.
