A leaked picture of the Nokia Sea Ray finally solves the mystery of the missing buttons on the device.

The picture reveals that the buttons are in fact screen based, likely using the extra 54 pixels of the N9’s 854×480 screen to display the buttons.

I am personally not a great fan of the arrangement, suggesting the device is really a lightly modified N9 rather that a device designed from the start for Windows Phone 7. If people were previously bothered by capacitive buttons, imagine how often users will accidentally exit out applications with the buttons so close to the screen content with this handset.

Edit: For those who think it is a Photoshop, this screen shot from the video manages to show just the edge of the button, confirming the colour as greyish at least.

Secondly, could it be that the reason Nokia did not show the buttons was because they were embarrassed by them?
