We normally expect iOS apps to be the most up to date, but increasingly companies find it easier to experiment on more open platforms and then to bring the new features to iOS.

A recent and good example of how iOS development is lagging is the Smart Downloads feature on Android and Windows, which will automatically download the latest episode of a series you are binging and delete earlier episodes, meaning you always have a fresh episode to watch off-line on your commute.

That feature has now finally made it onto the iPhone and iPad, and for users who prefer to manage their storage and WIFI data usage themselves, it can be de-activated in settings.
