Microtransactions have always been a favorite when it comes to developers but this is the first time we may see them implemented in a new way. As you know, in order to purchase anything in Minecraft you have to spend actual money. For example, let’s say you want to buy a skin pack on Xbox One. Well, it’s going to cost you a few dollars. There’s no way to actually use in-game resources to purchase the content. That may be about to change though.

Recently, Microsoft filed a trademark for an in-game currency called MineCoin. While we don’t know much other than what was listed in the trademark application, it appears that it will be another way to purchase items in Minecraft. Hopefully Microsoft will allow us to earn MineCoins in Minecraft through accomplishing certain tasks or just playing for a long time. I would rather earn MineCoins inside the game than spend a couple of dollars here and there on skin packs and other items. We’ll update you as soon as we know more. A huge thank you to WalkingCat for finding the listing!
