Microsoft’s Surface Pros are designed so that users can get elements of the newer Surfaces without having to upgrade their Surfaces wholesale, and firmware updates are habitually pushed out to improve integration between older and newer devices. True to form, Microsoft is pushing one such update out to the Surface Pro 4.

The new update is dated September 14 and will download on any Surface Pro 4 which attaches the newer Surface signature type covers which made their debut earlier this year with Microsoft’s Surface Pro 2017.

Here’s what they add:

  • Surface Fingerprint Sensor – Biometric device: 2.2.11.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface PTP Filter – HID: 1.0.173.1 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface Pro Type Cover Integration – HID: 1.0.2.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface Smart Cover Backlight – System device: 3.0.0.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.

You can download this new firmware update from Settings > Windows Update if it hasn’t already installed itself on your machine.
