On May 22, Microsoft pushed out new updates to Paint, Snipping Tool, and Notepad for Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels.
Paint now supports a new “Cocreator” feature that uses AI to generate images from text prompts. Microsoft improved its image generation process, promising faster results and better detail. The update also includes a redesigned image creation window and support for 16:9 images.
Snipping Tool now lets users edit text directly in screenshots using OCR (Optical Character Recognition). You can copy text from images, redact sensitive info, and even add or remove text. Microsoft has also added audio and mic support for screen recordings, letting users capture both video and voice in one go.

Notepad has picked up a built-in character count, visible in the status bar. The count updates automatically as you write and even works for selected text. Microsoft also fixed issues affecting app performance, especially when switching between light and dark modes.
All features are rolling out gradually, and Microsoft will collect feedback to fine-tune the experience. The updates are available to those running Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26085 or newer.
