Microsoft's new tool lets you see troubleshoot Windows error codes

Microsoft’s Windows has often been prone to random errors with codes for failed updates, BSODs and the like which are often gibberish at the worst of times and unhelpful for most users without a technical bent.

In addition to that, getting help from Microsoft is relatively complicated, with the new Contact Support app being completely terrible and the Microsoft Answers community being relatively useless in terms of giving you real answers.

To remedy that somewhat, Microsoft has launched a new tool on the official Microsoft Support website, called “Fix Windows Update Errors”

What does this guided walk-through do?

This guided walk-through provides steps to fix problems when installing updates. Here are some commonly seen error codes: 0x80073712, 0x800705B4, 0x80004005, 0x8024402F, 0x80070002, 0x80070643, 0x80070003, 0x8024200B, 0x80070422, 0x80070020. These steps should help with all errors and not just the ones listed.

How does it work?

We’ll walk you through a series of troubleshooting steps to get your Windows up to date. Be sure to follow the steps in order.

What the tool essentially does is help users of Windows who have run into errors which they cannot resolve on their own identify and resolve exactly what the error is. For this purpose, Microsoft supports Windows 7, Windows 8.1 (Windows 8 users ca upgrade to Windows 8.1 as a free upgrade from the Windows Store) and Windows 10.
