At Build developer conference today, Microsoft today announced a new cloud service called Azure IoT Edge. It is a new Azure service that delivers AI and advanced analytics capabilities to the edge device. It offers orchestration between code and services, so they flow securely between cloud and edge to distribute intelligence across IoT devices.

Developers can also easily integrate Microsoft Azure and third-party services, or augment existing services to create a custom IoT application with their own business logic. Instead of focusing either on cloud or edge device, developers can now get the best of both worlds with devices that can act locally based on the data they generate, while also taking advantage of the cloud to configure, deploy, and manage them securely and at scale.

Also, the edge devices can operate reliably even when they’re offline or only have intermittent connectivity to the cloud. Whenever they are reconnected, edge devices automatically sync their latest state and continue to function seamlessly, regardless of ongoing connectivity.
