Microsoft tops Time's annual World Best Companies list

Microsoft has been named the top company in TIME’s inaugural list of the World Best Companies, a comprehensive analysis of the top-performing companies across the globe. 

Teaming up with Statista, the study was based on three primary dimensions: Employee Satisfaction, Revenue Growth, and Sustainability (ESG).

To measure how happy employees are with their jobs, surveys were conducted with over 150,000 employees in 58 countries. Revenue growth, on the other hand, was calculated using data from Statista’s database of company revenues.

Sustainability performance was assessed using environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data, including key performance indicators from Statista’s ESG database and other sources.

“The way I think about our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more,” Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, told TIME a few months back. 

With an overall score of 96.46 out of 100, Microsoft tops the category of employee satisfaction rank and is placed 8th in the sustainability rank.

Microsoft has also experienced strong revenue growth recently and made $72 billion in its latest fiscal year. And, it is committed to sustainability goals such as reducing its carbon emissions by 0.5% and increasing the number of women on its board of directors.

Other tech companies also performed well on the list, with Apple, Alphabet (Google), and Meta Platforms (Facebook) all ranking in the top four. 

The list is followed by Accenture (Ireland), Pfizer, American Express (both from the United States), Electricite de France (France), BMW Group (Germany), and Dell (US).
